Nature's Fury--We Don't Like Ike

Here in Houston, we are nervously awaiting Hurricane Ike's arrival. As a native Floridian, I am very used to the threat of hurricanes and was even born during one--Cleo in 1964. Still, I have never experienced one first hand. We had moved from south Florida before hurricane Andrew hit and thankfully Rita veered away from directly hitting Houston three years ago. Unfortunately Ike is not going away.

Right now the storm is 70 miles away but we are already getting some scary wind gusts in our neighborhood. The storm surge is already flooding many coastal communities. We've boarded up our windows, secured everything that could blow away, and have sequestered ourselves indoors to wait for something we cannot control. Let's hope for a calm morning after.
